Reblog of the day! Don’t forget to visit Kiki Smith’s Chorus in Times Square this summer!
Kiki Smith - Chorus
This free outdoor installation in Times Square features rainbow-colored star clusters made by Kiki Smith which pay tribute to Josephine Baker. The Last Lot (46th and 8th Ave) is a generous short-term donation to Art Production Fund from The Shubert Organization, and is part of the Times Square Allianceʼs public art program that works to bring cutting-edge art to Times Square (www.timessquarenyc.org). We hope you get to visit it this summer!
you can see these beautiful glass-stained sculptures for yourself!
Kiki Smith working on “Chorus,” which will be installed on Eighth Avenue at 46th Street on May 23rd. The Last Lot, a 70-by-100-foot empty slice of theater district real estate, will have a nostalgic nod to the glamour of old Broadway. The space is commissioned by the nonprofit Art Production Fund, in collaboration with the Times Square Alliance and the Shubert Organization, which owns the chain-link-fenced lot and has donated it temporarily for art projects.
